Brief Biography
Eileen grew up in Merida, Venezuela. She obtained a B.S. in Biology from Amherst College and then spent a year in the UK, pursuing a Masters degree at Cambridge University. She became interested in basic research as an undergraduate student and decided to combine that interest with a career in veterinary medicine after a great experience working in a veterinary hospital in her hometown. In her spare time, she enjoys social latin dance, spending time with her family and friends, and getting to know the great veterinary and combined degree community at Cornell.

Research Interests
Eileen started her research career in the laboratory of Dr. Sheila Jaswal at Amherst College, working on protein folding. She then completed her honors thesis in Dr. Josef Trapani’s laboratory, where she studied the startle response in larval zebrafish. During her time in Cambridge, she joined Dr. Jane Ladlow and Dr. David Sargan’s group, where she completed a project on the Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome in Pugs, French Bulldogs, and Bulldogs. At Cornell, she is looking forward to rotating in and selecting a lab for her PhD.

Education
B.A. in Biology, Amherst College, 2015
