AQUAVET® Locale and Facilities

AQUAVET® has been held at Roger Williams University, in Bristol, Rhode Island in recent years. RWU will again be the hosts for the upcoming summer schedule.

Information on the Roger Williams University campus and local area can be found on the Roger Williams University web site <www.rwu.edu/>.

Located on a stunning 140 acres overlooking Mount Hope Bay, the Roger Williams campus takes advantage of the New England coastline’s natural beauty. The campus location in historic Bristol, RI, is easily accessible from Providence, Boston or New York City.

The RWU Center for Economic and Environmental Development (CEED) includes a 3,000-square-foot marine lab with flowing seawater, a commercial-scale shellfish hatchery, a newly constructed Aquatic Animal Health and Diagnostics Laboratory, research vessels and a 300-foot learning platform in Mount Hope Bay.

Starting in 2010, CEED has operated an Aquatic Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory that supports the aquaculture and other aquatic animal industries. This facility enables RWU to conduct cutting-edge, externally funded, aquatic animal health research and provide diagnostic testing services for Rhode Island, New England and the entire East Coast. Dr. Roxanna Smolowitz was recently hired to lead and direct the growth of this program. Dr. Smolowitz is a long time faculty member for AQUAVET® and will be on hand throughout the basic and advanced courses.
